Sprouting….
Our chairman Mr. Qiu Mu-Chen went to Taipei to look for a job after graduation. After several jobs, by chance, he got into the business of sweet potatoes. His career started by driving his second-hand truck selling sweet potatoes, then he started to sublet a store with friends. During this period, he was very fortunate to have the support and help of many friends: some provided him money, some let him use the store for free….and gradually, the reputation of his small sweet potato business started to spread!
Growing Stronger
Fast food brands such as McDonalds came to Taiwan in the 1980s. Having faith in the business opportunities of French fries, an idea struck the staff of K.K. ORCHARD: they cut quality but not good-looking sweet potatoes into strips to make French fries or smashed them to make sweet potato cakes, and sold them to fast food chain stores such as T.K.K. Fried Chicken and Roast Chicken, where they were warmly received by costumers; in order to prolong shelf life and accommodate mass demand, their factory was opened. At that point, K.K. ORCHARD officially stepped into the food processing industry.
Continuing Development
In the 1990s, the three co-founders of K.K. ORCHARD decided to move its factory from Taipei to the home of sweet potatoes - Shinhua, Tainan in order to allow better and faster communications with its contracted farmers. Later, frozen roasted sweet potatoes started to get popular in Japan; then K.K. ORCHARD started to work with Family Mart in 2010, selling freshly baked sweet potatoes “popular baked sweet potatoes” in all its chain stores and has thus established a foundation for its future development.
